My Mom

Rachel Elizabeth Sage
October 11, 1923 - March 25, 2001

The family wishes to thank everyone for their loving prayers and support. After two months in the hospital, Rachel had strengthened sufficiently for the doctors (who were amazed by her recovery) to begin planning her return home. However, God appeared to have other plans and took her home in her sleep this morning.

Psalm 116:
"What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me? I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows to the Lord now in the presence of all His people. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints."

Updates:
  • (3/22/01) Mom took her first steps in nearly two months on the 19th, and has been totally weaned off the respirator since the 20th! She is working hard to keep her breath, but is slowly getting stronger.

  • (3/01/01) Mom is 'hanging in there'; she's left the ICU (!) and is trying to get off the respirator by focusing on regaining lung strength. She is quite frail (I think any of us would be weak as a kitten after four weeks in a hospital bed), but is fighting hard to get better. All prayers are deeply appreciated.

  • (2/10/01) Mom has been in an intensive care unit and on a respirator now for 8 days. The bulk of the professional medical opinion we received was that she was not going to make it, and the family was being nudged toward considering removing life support. Last Saturday while quietly praying over her, she woke up and grasped my hands – that was a wonderful gift that I will carry with me always. Her lungs have been slowly clearing up, her blood pressure and heart rate slowly stabilizing. Thank you, everyone, who have been supporting mom and our family during this time. Please continue to pray that mom's lungs will clear and strengthen so that she might be able to come off the respirator.

Due to a family emergency, February updates to tinfoil.com will be delayed for several days, perhaps a week or more.

All prayers and well wishes on behalf of my mother, Rachel Sage, are gratefully appreciated.   She has a long history as a cheerful fighter, and in the last two years that we have been honored to care for her in our home she has continued the good fight; but now she is battling a grave pneumonia.   Thank you for your understanding and patience.   – Glenn (2/2/01)
